Jo Cooke

My father is a press photographer, my mother a sales executive with the gift of the gab. It's no wonder I ended up a journalist.

John Dale at Take a Break magazine gave me my first break. I worked on the picture desk, then landed a job as production manager for the magazine's special projects division. I was later promoted to a sub-editor position.

However, I'd majored in scriptwriting in my final year at the London College of Printing reading Film and Video. My ultimate aim was to earn my living as a scribe.

Evenings and weekends I attended feature writing courses at City University and wrote travel features on a freelance basis.

Sue Ricketts at Bella magazine finally gave me a chance to prove myself offering me my first staff writer job.

I went on to be travel editor at Reveal Magazine, associate editor at independent title The Travel Magazine and deputy editor at Fate & Fortune magazine. Now I'm back freelancing full time after being offered the opportunity to write my first guide book.

If I can be of assistance in writing or editing travel copy for you please drop me a line by email.
